I’m hosting a book giveaway to raise money for causes I believe in.

2020 May 30

I’ve been carrying a lot of grief these past few weeks. Between the decline of my mother’s health, the grim reminders of the US police state’s incessant destruction of Black bodies, and the weight of this global pandemic, I was unsure how to celebrate the accomplishment of a life-long dream, of publishing my first book. But I remembered that, just as much as my book is about race and romance, it is also about resistance. (It’s right there on the cover.)

To that end, I’m hosting a book giveaway. (#GiveawayTheGroom?) Let’s raise money for the Minneapolis-based initiative Reclaim The Block, the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund, and Frontline Feeders Philippines.

How to participate: Donate any amount you can to the above orgs and funds, then send me your donation receipt, before Groom launch day on June 2. Then, three randomly-selected folks will receive signed copies of Groom directly from me with a personal note. If they like, we can chat on Zoom too—about the book, about life, about what we’re doing to fight white supremacy and/or the lasting effects of imperial America.

Thank you for walking alongside me on the road to putting this book, my words and my beliefs, into the world. As we fight to improve it, I ask you now to stand by each other too. ✊🏽

Click these links to make your donations to Reclaim The Block, the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund, and Frontline Feeders Philippines.

Then submit your donation receipt through this form.

The giveaway results will be announced on June 2, when Groom goes on sale. Thanks for your generosity and your compassion.
